Islanders and visitors no longer require a six-month license to purchase, import, and consume alcohol (Pitcairn Island Government Ordinance). There is now one licensed cafe and bar on the island, and the Government Store sells alcohol and cigarettes. Education is free and compulsory between the ages of five and 15.
